Lloret de Mar,
slowly understood.

An honest, independent travel guide to one of the Mediterranean's most loved beach towns. Where to sleep, how to get there, what to eat — and the small things the resort brochures forget to mention.

A complete guide,
without the noise.

Lloret de Mar sits on the southern Costa Brava in the Catalan province of Girona, about 75 kilometres north of Barcelona. It is best known for its long sand beach, pine-covered headlands, and a calendar of beach holidays that runs from May through October. Behind the seafront promenade is a real Catalan town with a 17th-century parish church, a weekly market, and some of the best seafood on the Mediterranean coast.

This guide covers everything you need to plan a trip — choosing a hotel, arranging car hire, getting in from Barcelona airport, and finding the things worth doing when you arrive.

Eat where the
locals eat.

Lloret's seafront is full of menus in seven languages — but the best meals happen two streets in, where Catalan families have run kitchens for three generations. Look for arròs negre (black rice with squid ink), grilled calçotsin early spring, and a glass of cold local Empordà rosé.
