What to do

Things to do in Lloret de Mar

Beaches and coves, a clifftop castle, three world-class water parks, medieval villages a short drive away — and one of the liveliest nightlife scenes in Catalonia.

The beaches

Lloret has six official beaches and a handful of unmarked coves. Each has a different character:

  • Platja de Lloret — the main beach, 1.6 km of golden sand backed by the promenade. Lifeguards, sun lounger rentals, beach bars.
  • Platja de Fenals — wider, calmer, family-friendly. Ringed by Mediterranean pines.
  • Santa Cristina & Cala Treumal — twin coves with crystal water and a small chapel above. Reachable by car or a 20-minute coastal walk.
  • Cala Canyelles — the only bay in Lloret where motorboats can anchor; good for snorkelling and SUP.
  • Cala Boadella — a quieter, partly nudist cove just past Santa Cristina.
  • Sa Caleta — tiny, pebbled, dramatic. Sits below the medieval-style castle on the headland.

Sant Joan Castle & the headlands

The 11th-century Castell de Sant Joan sits on the pine-covered headland between Lloret and Fenals. Walk up via the marked coastal path (about 30 minutes from the seafront) for the best panoramic view of the bay and the open Mediterranean. Free to visit; bring water and good shoes.

Water parks & family days out

  • Water World — one of Spain's largest water parks, 10 minutes by shuttle bus.
  • Marineland — in nearby Palafolls, with dolphins, sea lions and a smaller water park.
  • Gnomo Park — adventure playground with zip lines and trampolines, good for under-12s.
  • Glass-bottom boats — leave from the main beach, hop-on/hop-off down the coast to Tossa de Mar and Blanes.

Day trips by car or bus

Tossa de Mar (20 min)

The walled medieval old town (the Vila Vella) is the most photographed spot on the Costa Brava. Drive the GI-682 coastal road or take the boat from Lloret beach for the best arrival.

Girona (45 min)

Cathedral, Jewish quarter, the colour-washed houses on the Onyar river — and a Game of Thrones location for fans. Lunch at one of the city's many small plates restaurants.

Barcelona (1h 15)

Sagrada Família, Park Güell, the Gothic Quarter, the Picasso Museum. Take the direct bus from Lloret bus station or drive and park near Plaça de les Glòries.

Figueres & the Dalí Museum (1h)

Salvador Dalí's "theatre-museum" is the artist's masterpiece, designed by him personally. Combine with a swim at Cadaqués in the afternoon.

Food & drink

Step one street back from the seafront for the real food: arròs negre(black rice), grilled calçots in spring, fresh anchovies from L'Escala, and Empordà DO wines. Save room for crema catalana.

Nightlife

Lloret has the busiest summer nightlife on the Costa Brava — a strip of large clubs (Tropics, Colossos, Moef Gaga) that run until 6 am from June to September. For something quieter, the bars around the marina and old town stay open until 2 am with live music and Catalan vermouth.
