When to visit
Lloret de Mar runs a long season — most hotels open from Aprilthrough October. Each part of the season feels different:
- April–May — 18–22°C, almost empty beaches, sea still cool. Great for hiking the coastal path.
- June — 24–27°C, sea warm enough to swim, prices still moderate. The local sweet spot.
- July–August — 28–32°C, peak crowds, peak prices, peak nightlife. Book everything ahead.
- September — the warmest sea of the year, smaller crowds. The smartest month.
- October — quiet, mild (20–24°C), perfect for walking and food trips.
- November–March — most hotels and seasonal restaurants closed. The town is sleepy but pleasant.
Language
Two co-official languages: Catalan and Spanish (Castellano). Catalan is the everyday language; menus and signs often appear in both. English is widely spoken in tourism. A few Catalan words go a long way: bon dia (good morning), gràcies (thank you), si us plau (please).
Money & costs
- Currency: Euro (€). Cards accepted almost everywhere; carry €30–50 cash for markets and beach bars.
- Coffee €1.50–2.50 · Beer €3–5 · Pizza/menu del día €12–18 · Tapas dinner for two €40–70.
- Tipping is not expected — round up the bill or leave 5–10% for excellent service.
- Catalan tourist tax: under €4 per night, paid at hotel check-in.
Safety
Lloret de Mar is a generally safe town with a strong tourist police presence. Standard precautions apply: keep valuables out of sight on the beach, watch for pickpockets in crowded summer streets, and never leave anything visible in a parked car. Emergency number: 112.
What to pack
- Reef-safe sunscreen (SPF 30+) — Mediterranean sun is intense.
- Light layers for evenings, even in July.
- Walking shoes for the coastal path and the old town's cobbles.
- European plug adapter (Type C/F, 230 V).
- Reusable water bottle — tap water is safe and free fountains are everywhere.
- A modest cover-up for visiting churches and the Sant Joan castle area.
Health & travel admin
- EU/EEA travellers: bring your EHIC/GHIC card for free public healthcare.
- Non-EU: travel insurance with medical cover is strongly recommended.
- Pharmacies (farmàcia) operate a 24-hour rota — the on-duty one is posted on every pharmacy door.
Connectivity
4G/5G coverage is excellent across the town and along the coast. EU SIMs roam for free; UK and non-EU travellers should buy an eSIM (Holafly, Airalo) before arrival or pick up a local SIM at El Corte Inglés in Girona or Barcelona.
